Brahmanandam's name missing in voters list Hyderabad : Popular Telugu film comedian Brahmanandam, who has appeared in ads exhorting voters to go out and vote, was at a loss for words on Wednesday when he found his own name missing in the voters' list, though he has been the brand ambassador of the Election Commission.
The veteran actor and his wife Lakshmi went to a polling centre in the Jubilee Hills area, but were surprised to learn from the polling staff that their names were not there in the voters' list. The actor, who earned a spot in the Guinness World Records in 2007 for acting in 754 films in 20 years, had to return disappointed.
'What do you want? One day's celebration or five years of happiness? Don't sell your vote for money, alcohol, gifts,' says one of the advertisements featuring the 58-year-old actor.
Ironically, Brahmanandam was left with disappointment for the entire day. Saina Nehwal, another brand ambassador from Hyderabad, cast her vote. The badminton star exercised her franchise at a polling centre near Gachibowli.
The Olympic bronze medalist was roped in by the Election Commission last year as one of the youth icons to encourage young voters in 18 to 19 age bracket to register themselves.
The 24-year-old said that she was happy to cast her vote for the first time. 'Today we are not practicing badminton. It is an election day for all,' she said.
'We should vote to choose a right leader, who can govern the country properly,' Saina said, while urging all voters to exercise their democratic right.
