Burnt cash in MLA's vehicle creates a flutter NALGONDA: On the day Telangana voted, `2.5 crore in cash was found burnt in an abandoned car, allegedly belonging to former minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, at Janagam Crossroads near Suryapet town in Nalgonda district.
It is suspected that several crores of rupees of `1,000 and `500 denominations were stashed inside the engine of the Toyota Innova car. Some said it was `1.5 crore, while there were reports that it was as high as `4 crore.
When asked, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said he was told that `2.5 crore in cash was in the car with some stashed in its engine. 'We are looking into the incident and we will take necessary action once the driver of the abandoned car is apprehended and the ownership of the cash and car ascertained,' he said.
Suryapet Deputy Superintendent of Police B Sravan Kumar, who is probing into the incident, said they have no clear picture on the quantum of cash in the vehicle.
'We found `1.5 lakh currency stashed in the engine. The vehicle was found abandoned near a roadside tree,' he said. The windshields of the car had a sticker with the name of Uttam Kumar Reddy and according to officials, the vehicle was registered in the name of Photon Energy Systems. The company is owned by Reddy.
