Bandar port work after coming to power: Jagan VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has promised to take steps for the commencement of the Machilipatnam (Bandar) port work within five months after coming to power and also stressed the need for completion of the Pulichintala and Polavaram irrigation projects to provide water for two crops in the Krishna delta.
Kick-staring his election campaign from Challapalli village in Avanigadda Assembly constituency on Wednesday, Jagan said that the delta farmers had to suffer a lot due to non-availability of irrigation water during Chandrababu Naidu's rule. Naidu's government released water to the delta only when farmers agitated for the water.
'But YS Rajasekhar Reddy released water for two crops in the delta despite several constraints,' he said and stressed the need for completion of the Pulichintala and Polavaram projects to make the Krishna delta fertile. Jagan also accused Naidu of neglect when the Karanataka government increased the height of Almatti dam.
Addressing a meeting at Pamarru, Jagan said Babu was making false and impractical promises and wondered how he could write off farmers' loans to the tune of Rs 1.27 lakh crore and why he had not even waived the interest on the farm loans when he was in power.
Reiterating his promise to sign five files and taking up six other works immediately after taking charge as chief minister, he assured that he would change the course of the state.
The YSRC president also addressed crowds at Kodali, Movva and Kuchipudi before arriving at Pamarru. Machilipatnam MP candidate Kolusu Parthasarathy said that May 7 is not only the day of elections, but is also Muhurtam to make Jagan chief minister.
