Modi plays Made in Andhra student
GUNTUR: Addressing a series of meetings in a row in searing heat is possible for seasoned politicians. But, avoiding monotony is challenging for even the best of them, except perhaps BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi.
The Gujarat strongman seems to have successfully connected with Seemandhra during his whirlwind tour Thursday. He addressed five meetings, starting from Madanapalle in Chittoor district and ending at Visakhapatnam, the city of destiny.
At all the places, he pinpointed local sentiments and made sure to recall their past glories. At Madanapalle, he said, 'This is a holy place where the great poet Rabindranath Tagore had translated Jana Gana Mana, our National Anthem, from Bengali into English and also set it to music.' He went on to recall that the late NTR used to start every party programme from the temple town of Tirupati.
In Nellore, Modi praised the efforts of 'local boy' M Venkaiah Naidu. 'If residual AP has got special status, it is because of the efforts of Venkaiahji,' he claimed.
Later in Guntur, Modi pointed out, 'Farmers and women from Guntur actively took part in the Satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi.'
Invoking the Telugu pride, he said, 'Congress is known for insulting Telugus. You all know how Rajiv Gandhi belittled the then CM T Anjaiah at the Begumpet airport.
Though former PM PV Narasimha Rao, Telugu Bidda, bailed out the country from financial crisis, Congress humiliated him. After his demise, it refused to keep his mortal remains in the AICC office'.
