Pawan steals Modi's thunder GUNTUR: Taking a cue from BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan too has tried to add local flavour to his speech.
Addressing a public meeting at Bhashyam School grounds in Guntur city, the film star, in a bid to strike chord with the local people, said, 'Not many of you know the fact that I was born at Bapatla in Guntur district. I am, therefore, a man of your soil'.
He then went on to call himself Bharatiyudu. 'I am a true Indian. That is why I don't want to confine myself to a particular region, caste or creed. Even though, the TRS people had tried to obstruct the screening of my films across Telangana, I never compromised on national integrity.'
Raising his voice against YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the 'power star' wanted to know why Jagan had never questioned the TRS chief's habit of deriding the people of Seemandhra.
He accused Jagan of failure to safeguard the self-respect of Seemandhras. 'Jagan cannot dare to question the TRS chief because KCR is Jagan's benami in Telangana. How can such a man become chief minister of Seemandhra? If he succeeds in becoming CM, will he not try to turn it as Scamaandhra to amass wealth?'
CROWD SURGES, CANED
The fans of Pawan and activists of his fledgling Jana Sena showed their massive strength by holding party flags. Whenever Pawan waved his hand, his followers, a majority of whom were youngsters and first-time voters, shouted , 'Power Star Zindabad'.
At one point of time, the enthusiastic crowd of fans broke the security cordon and tried to throng the dais to greet their hero. Taken aback the sudden surge of the mob, police resorted to baton charge for a while to stop them from reaching the dais. But, the efforts of the securitymen went in vain as supporters of the film actor swarmed the VIP gallery to have a glimpse of their matinee idol from close quarters.
NAIDU WOOS KAPUS
As Kapus are one of the predominant castes in Guntur district and they might decide the electoral fortunes of any contestant, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu tried to woo them to the TDP-BJP combine's side during his brief speech.
Assuring the Kapus of inclusion in the list of Backward Classes if the TDP came to power in Seemandhra, Naidu said he would strive hard for the overall development of Kapus. The TDP chief went to the extent of saying that Modi had almost become the PM as the BJP-led NDA was sure to occupy the seat of power in Delhi after the elections.
'None can stop Modi from becoming the next prime minister. Modi has almost become the PM. Only his swearing-in ceremony as is due now,' said the TDP boss. He then urged voters not to vote for the YSRC, saying, 'YSRC is the offshoot of the Congress. I am sure the fledgling party will be merged with the Congress after the polls. If you vote for YSRC, the vote will in fact go to the Congress,' he said.
