Naidu campaigns in Kuppam after two decades HYDERABAD, May 4: The keenness of the contest in Andhra Pradesh between the TDP and the YSR Congress is evident from one thing ~ TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu extensively campaigned in his home constituency of Kuppam on Sunday after two decades.
If this is not enough he has ensured that film star Pawan Kalyan joins him in the barn storming. Naidu is seeking his sixth consecutive term from Kuppam this election.
The last time he campaigned was in 1994 when NT Rama Rao scripted the most sensational victory ever in the integrated state winning 227 of the 294 seats. Naidu won with a majority of 57,000 votes.
Naidu in an alliance with the BJP retained power in 1999. In the next two elections ~ 2004 and 2009 ~ the TDP came a cropper. He did not visit Kuppam on any of these occasions.
Kuppam has repeatedly helped the TDP bag the Chittor Lok Sabha seat. The reason is that irrespective of the majorities or the deficits the six Assembly segments deliver, the majority from Kuppam ensured the victory of the TDP Parliament candidate.
