Unseasonal rains claim nine lives
Hyderabad, May 10 (INN): Unseasonal rains, hailstorm and thunderbolt that occurred in different parts of Andhra Pradesh for the last two days have claimed nine lives.
Two people were killed due to house collapse in Mahabubnagar on the intervening night of May 8-9th. Three people were killed in Prakasam due to thunderbolt while one fisherman died due to tilting of boat upside down due to heavy win flow on Friday in Prakasam district. Due to thunderbolt, two people were killed in Srikakulam and one in Warangal district.
According to officials, due to the influence of the low pressure area over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood had become less marked and now seen as a upper air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh and Odisha extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level, almost all districts in the State received unseasonal very heavy rains with hailstorm / thunderbolt on May 9 and 10th causing heavy damages.
In the last two days, West Godavari received 95.6 MM of rainfall followed by Khammam (92.2), East Godavari (84.2), Krishna (81.7), Visakhapatnam (55.3), Warangal (52.4), Nalgonda (38.7), Ranga Reddy (38), Guntur (36.4), Karimnagar (33.6), Vizianagaram (32.8), Srikakulam (29.8), Adilabad (21.3), Kurnool (21.3), Medak (19.2), Anantapur (17.1), Nizamabad (17.1), Prakasam (9.1), Chittoor (7.7), Nellore (7), Kadapa (5.4). The State received an average rainfall of 38 mm.
Agriculture crops spread across 9988 Hectares in 10 districts were damaged due to heavy rains. A total of 42 Livestock too have been lost in the last two days. As many as eight houses were also damaged in Mahabubnagar district.
The Met Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
