While TPCC celebrates, APCC sinks in sorrow HYDERABAD: The premises of Gandhi Bhavan witnessed diametrically opposite scenes on Monday when the results of municipal polls started to trickle in.
As soon as the TV channels started airing the news that the Congress was doing well in the municipal elections in Telangana, celebrations broke out at Gandhi Bhavan.
Several T-Congress leaders, including Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets among themselves. Some enthusiastic leaders and workers of the party danced to the tunes of drum beats. Even fire crackers were burst.
Speaking on the occasion, Ponnala, who was visibly elated, exuded confidence that the Assembly elections too would throw up similar results.
'The results of the municipal polls had reflected the sentiments of the Telangana people. I am sure the same results will come even in the Assembly polls. No doubt, the Congress is going to form the first government in the new State on its own,' he said.
Stating that the TRS, which boasted of winning the Assembly polls, failed to win majority of seats in municipal polls, the TPCC chief said, 'The results of the municipal polls show that the people of Telangana trust only Congress and not any other party.
These results prove the fact that people are convinced of the reality that the formation of the T-State was possible only because of the iron will of the AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi.' He further said only the Congress could build the new State from the scratch and transform it into a Golden Telangana State.
Gloomy Scene
In sharp contrast to this, there was gloomy atmosphere at the newly built Indira Bhavan, on the premises of Gandhi Bhavan.
Indira Bhavan, which is the headquarters of the Andhra PCC, wore a deserted look as the party had failed to bag even a single municipality in Seemandhra.
Conceding his party's defeat in Seemandhra, Andhra PCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy acknowledged that the Congress could not win even a single municipality in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
'I have already asked my party leaders in every district to get the feedback from electors why the party had failed utterly in the municipal polls.
We will dissect our performance in all elections right from municipal polls after the results of the general polls and start rebuilding the party,' the visibly saddened Raghuveera Reddy said.
