TRS trounces Congress in Karimnagar district KARIMNAGAR: With an impressive tally of 41 ZPTCs out of the total 57 ZPTCs and 298 MPTCs out of 689 MPTCs, the results of which were announced by 8 pm on Tuesday, the TRS soundly trounced its nearest rival Congress. The latter secured 14 ZPTCs and 230 MPTCs.
The parties' tallies were as follows: ZPTCs: TDP and BJP - 1 each : MPTCs: BJP- 42, TDP - 28, YSRCP and CPI -1 each and Others - 85.
While the results of all the 57 ZPTCs had come in by the time of filing this report, the results of 115 MPTCs were yet to be declared. Out of the total 817 MPTCs, 13 had chosen their candidates unanimously and elections were held in 804 MPTCs.
As ballot papers were used in the two-phase ZPTC-MPTC elections, the manual counting process was time-consuming. Though the process began at 8 am, it took the election personnel three hours to separate the ballots of the ZPTCs and the MPTCs.
And in view of the huge number (804) of MPTCs, the counting of votes continued well beyond 8 pm. While there were 366 candiates in the fray for the ZPTC seats, there were 3,576 candidates for the MPTC posts.
District collector and election officer M Veerabrahmaiah and DSP Shiva Kumar visited various counting centers and inspected the counting process. The latter focused his attention on the secutiry arrangements at the vote counting centres.
