Urban-rural voter divide a myth? VIJAYAWADA: Notwithstanding popular perception that rural voters are different from their counterparts in urban areas, and that they prefer to vote for different parties, the hotly anticipated results of the MPTC/ZPTC elections put TDP ahead of YSRC in the race, proving the notion wrong.
The Telugu Desam party, which has almost swept the municipal polls in the residuary Andhra Pradesh Monday, has continued its trend in the ZPTC/MPTC elections.
According to the information available, the TDP has continued its domination in Krishna and Guntur districts and put up a neck to neck fight with YSRCP in Prakasam district.
'Contrary to general observation that rural and urban voters are different, I feel that there is a difference between the rich and the poor rather than urban and rural. The orientation of affluent voters is different,' said MVS Nagi Reddy, a farmers' leader who is with YSR Congress.
Jakka Srinivas, a builder and real estate developer, said, 'There is no division between urban and rural voters. But the issues related to them are different. If the problems being faced by them are common, then their impression would also be the same. If the issues faced by them are different, their viewpoint would also change.'
