Two youths from city die in US road mishap HYDERABAD: Three students from the state, who were pursuing engineering courses in Virginia, died in a road accident. Though the accident took place a few days ago, the Maryland state police identified the trio on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Vignesh Ashokan (23), Sharath Sudershanam (24) and Mokka Mallikarjun (25). They were roommates and lived in Fairfax, Virginia.
At around 4 pm on Tuesday, a driver called the police to report something that appeared to be evidence of a vehicle crash. The police then visited the spot and found the bodies of the three students and the wreckage of a sports car.
A state police crash team and the Criminal Enforcement Division along with the corpse dog team were pressed into action to ensure that the victims had been identified.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, a 2012 Volvo S60, owned and driven by Mallikarjun was south bound. The vehicle travelled on to the ramp and for unknown reasons travelled off the left side of the roadway and entered the woods.
The vehicle travelled a distance of 300 metres off the roadway before crashing into a tree, investigators said. Police suspect that over speeding might have caused the car to break into multiple pieces.
State police investigators also said that the three men had been visiting friends in Cockeysville. Around 1.30 am on May 11, they decided to travel back to Virginia.
Investigators believe that the crash occurred shortly after the trio left Cockeysville, early Sunday morning and added that the crash site had remained undiscovered as it was far off from the roadway and covered with bushes and trees.
