Kavitha handed a crushing defeat to Madhu Yashki Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi Chairperson Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao, won Nizamabad MP seat by a 1.20 lakh vote majority. It is a rare distinction for her being the only woman to represent the new State of Telangana in the Lok Sabha.
It may be mentioned that Kavitha as a TRS nominee is the only woman in the election fray for a parliament seat out of 17 constituencies in Telangana. As the TRS candidate for the Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat, she took on Congress sitting member Madhu Yashki Goud, Y Lakshminarayan of BJP and S Ravinder Reddy of YCP. There were 16 contestants in the field.
Proving intelligence reports right, Kavitha emerged victorious defeating all the three nearest opponents, including the sitting Congress candidate Madhu Yashki Goud.
Thus with her victory, she achieved her rare distinction of being the only woman from the Telangana State in the Lok Sabha. Another new entrant to the Lok Sabha from the Telangana State Konda Visveshwar Reddy, won from Chevella.
He is a TRS nominee in the election fray for the Chevella Lok Sabha seat, which was won in 2009 by the Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy. Being the grandson of former Deputy Chief Minister late Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy and son of Justice Konda Madhava Reddy, Visveshwar Reddy's victory is stated to be inevitable based on the Telangana sentiments and also due to the image and reputation of his politically well-known family among the electorate. He is pitted against the Congress nominee K Karthik Reddy, son of former Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, also a new entrant in the poll battle.
