Naidu, Pawan to attend NDA meeting today HYDERABAD: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who will be the first CM of residuary Andhra Pradesh, along with Jana Sena Party boss and film actor Pawan Kalyan, will take part in the first meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Delhi on Tuesday.
The meeting assumes significance as some of the newly elected MPs of the TDP are anxiously waiting whether Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi will invite the yellow party to be part of his soon-to-be formed Union Cabinet. It is an open secret that they are aspiring to be Union Ministers.
Since the TDP is one of the partners in the NDA, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Monday rang up Naidu and invited him to take part in the NDA meeting.
Acknowledging this, the TDP chief told reporters here on Monday, 'I am going to Delhi to take part in the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Parliament Central Hall.'
When asked about whether his party would agree to join Modi's Cabinet if such an offer is made, Naidu evaded a straight answer. The swift reply from him to was that he was never after power.
'The TDP is not a power-mongering party. Protecting the interests of Seemandhra and Telangana are paramount to us. We will try to develop both States by bringing more funds from the Centre with the help of Narendra Modi,' said Naidu.
Meanwhile, in an interesting development, Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan has also been invited by the BJP leadership for the NDA meeting.
Some see this as a reciprocal gesture by the saffron party bosses to thank the film star for campaigning for the TDP-BJP combine in Seemandhra and Telangana in the recently-held polls.
Some analyse this as an indication that the BJP leadership wants to use the services of Pawan Kalyan, who hails from the powerful Kapu community in Seemandhra, in the coming years too to strengthen the party in the state.
