Kalwakurthy seat goes to Congress HYDERABAD: Congress has won the Kalwakurthy Assembly Constituency in Mahbubnagar district with a slender margin of 78 votes, increasing its tally of MLAs in Telangana Assembly to 21.
The result of Kalwakurthy Assembly election was not announced along with other constituencies on May 16 as one electronic voting machine malfunctioned, delaying the final outcome.
As the efforts of poll officials to retrieve data form the EVM proved futile and even ECIL engineers' efforts failing, the Election Commission ordered re-polling in Jupalli village of the constituency, where the EVM had malfunctioned. The re-polling was held on Monday and about 95 per cent voting was registered.
The votes were counted in the evening, and the final verdict was in favour of Congress candidate Challa Vamsichand Reddy.
