Telangana Cong leaders face the wrath of party workers HYDERABAD: After the conflagration, embers continue to smolder in Telangana Congress. Second-rung leaders targeted the state level leaders of the party for the humiliating defeat it had suffered at the hands of TRS.
Trouble started when Telangana Congress leaders met at Gandhi Bhavan under the chiarmanship of Telangana party chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah to discuss the factors that led to the party's dismal performance.
A few activities rose and demanded that the party should make an honest introspection of what had gone wrong and what should be done to make it bounce back.
Party leaders B Kishan and Venkanna demanded that Ponnala Lakshmaiah should resign as TPCC chief and other senior leaders, including former deputy chief minister Damodara Rajanarasimha, to their positions, accepting responsibility for the debacle.
Though the leaders tried to explain that Congress defeat was not a phenomenon exclusive to Telangana, the party activists were not in a mood to listen.
They said thy knew what went wrong for the party at the national level, but in case of Telangana, there was a strong case for the party to fare well since it delivered Telangana state, which did not happen.
They pointed out that it was because of the inept leadership and adamant attitude of the leaders in taking second-rung leaders along that made party activists lose interest in either campaigning for the party or ensuring that people in villages voted for Congress.
Party leader form Khammam Ponguleti Sudhakar said he understood the agony of party workers that Congress had lost the elections and felt merely demanding the resignation of top leaders is not enough.
Even as the leaders were leaving Gandhi Bhavan after the meeting, party workers did not spare them, but kept arguing with them until they boarded their vehicles and left.
