Naidu to take oath in Vijayawada Hyderabad: The swearing-in-ceremony of the first Chief Minister of the newly formed residuary state of Andhra Pradesh would take place in Vijayawada.
Highly-placed sources from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) told that the party president and Chief Minister-designate Nara Chandrababu Naidu had almost made up his mind to take oath of office in Vijayawada for varied reasons.
An important reason for the change of mind of the Chief Minister designate is the proximity of Vijayawada to all the 13 districts of Seemandhra and prominence of the city as the hub of political activity.
A senior party leader, who worked as a minister in Naidu's cabinet in the past, said that the party president had almost made up his mind to take oath of office in Vijayawada city.
'Naidu has decided to hold his swearing in ceremony in Vijayawada city. There would not be any change in the venue unless something inevitable happens. The decision was taken after careful thought and considering various factors.
Besides, being city which is geographically very close to all the Seemandhra districts, Vijayawada has a rich political history. It is also considered as a hotbed of political activity.
The city is also renowned as a strong bastion of the TDP from the inception of the party. All the factors have convinced our party president to choose as the venue of the swearing in ceremony,' the former minister said.
Earlier, reports were rife that the Chief Minister in waiting would hold his swearing in ceremony either from Tirupati or Guntur districts.
However, many senior leaders of the party and other workers were not in favor of the two venues. Interestingly, Naidu, in one of his election campaign meetings, said that he would hold the swearing in ceremony in Tirupathi.
A politburo member of the party made it clear that Tirupathi would not be the venue of the swearing-in ceremony and added that Chief Minister designate had offered prayers at the Tirumala temple to compensate to what he had said during his election campaign.
The party circles have now shifted their focus on opting a date to hold the swearing in ceremony. Party sources told that the ceremony would take place either on June 2, the formation day of Seemandhra state or on June 7.
They added that a final decision on the issue would be taken during the next couple of days. 'As we have come to power after a very long time, we are planning to hold the swearing in ceremony on an auspicious. Astrologers close to Naidu have advised him to take the oath office either on June 2 or June 7,' a leader close to Naidu told.
