Narayana draws flak for wrong priorities
Hyderabad: Serious trouble seems to be brewing in the State CPI. Senior leaders are unhappy with the leadership of State unit secretary K Narayana.
The simmering differences within the party came to the fore on the second day of the state executive meeting held here. A senior leader Pratap Reddy raised the issue in full glare of the media and alleged that the party got decimated in the elections because of wrong priorities and the party should change its agenda if it were to be in the political arena.
At this juncture, Narayana asked him not to raise such issues and turned down the proposal. He also told Reddy not to shout in front of the media and create a ruckus. Reddy retorted, asking, 'Who are you to reject my demand?' He said the party was anyway getting divided into two units on Friday. Protesting against the attitude of Narayana, he walked out of the meeting.
Later, CPI General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy called upon the leaders of the Left parties to undertake people's movements as a balancing act of weak representation in the Parliament. He felt that the Narendra Modi government under the guise of development and liberalisation would encourage FDI and corporatisation.
Earlier, at the inaugural session of the two-day CPI State Council meeting, he felt that the Modi government would speed up the process of implementing policies which would further the corporate interests in the country.
He said the Left parties would bring closer all the non-Congress and non-BJP secular parties and see that an alternative force emerges. Reddy pointed out that BJP was no different from Congress. It would try to divert people's attention from its failures to keep its promises, by unleashing the Saffron agenda. This would create a feeling of insecurity amongst the minorities of the country, he noted. The council passed a resolution, condemning the State government's attitude in handling the Tsunduru case. It demanded that the government immediately appeal to the Supreme Court. The party would be holding a public meeting on the issue on May 29 in Hyderabad.
