MIM-Congress alliance continues in GHMC
Hyderabad, May 25 (INN): Amid talks of its possible tie-up with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has made it clear that it won't break its alliance with the Congress party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
The MIM on Sunday named seven candidates for the elections of GHMC's 15-member Standing Committee. By naming just seven candidates, the MIM has left eight other seats for its ally Congress party.
This will ensure that the MIM-Congress combine continues its control over the Standing Committee for the fifth consecutive year. The GHMC's five-year term will complete by this year-end.
Of 150 divisions in the GHMC, the Congress has 54 corporators, MIM - 42, TDP - 46, BJP - 5, three independents and MBT has one corporator. By continuing their alliance, the MIM-Congress combine can keep the TDP and BJP out of Standing Committee.
The elections for 15-member Standing Committee for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will be held on June 6. The last day for filing of nominations is Monday and the GHMC will publish the list of received nominations on May 27 which will be scrutinized on May 28. The last for withdrawal of nomination is May 31 before 3 PM.
The GHMC corporators whose candidature for the elections of Standing Committee members was finalised by the MIM are Wajid Ali Khan (Santosh Nagar), Abdul Qavi Ansari (Chandrayangutta), Dr Yousufuddin Naqshbandi (Lalithabagh), Mohsin Balala (Pathergatti), MA Gaffar (Doodh Bowli), Md Farooquddin (Amberpet) and V Bhanumathi (Borabanda).
Meanwhile, the Congress has also finalised its candidates who include Wajid Hussain (Bholakpur), Anil Singh (Dhoolpet), Dev Anand (Sanathnagar), Krishna (Jiyaguda) and J Satyanarayana (Rajendernagar). The remaining candidates are likely to be finalised by Monday morning.
BJP Corporator representing Kachiguda division Uma Rani has already filed her nomination for the Standing Committee elections.
