Future of Konathala, Dadi at cross roads Visakhapatnam: Political opponents who ruled the roost in Anakapalli politics for many decades, Konathala Ramakrishna and Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, are now facing failure although sailing in the same boat -YSRCP. Their failure stems from their inability to get their
kin elected in the recent Assembly elections.
While Konathala failed to get his brother Raghubabu elected from the Anakapalli seat as YSRCP nominee, Dadi could not ensure his son Ratnakar's success from Visakhapatnam West constituency.
This indicates a loosening of their hold in the district politics. Konathala, YSR loyalist, won from Anakapalli in 2004 and served the YSR Cabinet as Commercial Taxes Minister.
Prior to that he was twice MP and managed to build a name for himself in the district. After YSR's death, he has been with Y S Jaganmohan Reddy since the party's inception. He is YSRCP convener looking after its political affairs. Veerabhadra Rao who had been with the TDP since NTR founded it went on to become a minister.
In 1985 he won from Anakapalli and retained the seat in 1989, 1994 and 1999. After getting defeated twice, he remained in the ruling party securing Council membership.
Realising that he was not getting due importance, Dadi switched over to YSRCP just before TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu launched his
'Vasthunna Meekosam Padayatra'.
However, his followers did not jump on to the YSRCP bandwagon. Konathala, who had by then strengthened his position in the party strongly, opposed Dadi's entry. However, he softened after sometime. Yet the rivalry continues.
