TG series for Telangana vehicles Hyderabad: All new vehicles in Telangana would have to mandatorily bear number plates under 'TG' series from June 2, the Appointed Date for the new State, despite Hyderabad being the joint capital region.
According to highly placed sources in the Transport Department, 'TG' is the preferred title of the new series for the State of Telangana and the Centre is expected to issue a notification in this regard in a day or two. 'All new vehicles in the Telangana state will be registered under TG series after June 2,' the official said.
Officials said that all vehicles in the joint capital region would have to take the TG series from June 2, regardless of the fact that Hyderabad would remain the joint capital of Telangana and the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years.
Vehicle owners would not have the liberty to choose 'AP' for their number series. The existing registration number plates would not have to be changed.
'If anyone wants to change a number from AP to TG series, he would have to go to Andhra Pradesh, cancel the registration number, and obtain a no-objection certificate from the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
The NOC then needs to be submitted to the Telangana state for securing a TG series registration number with the prescribed fee,' the official explained.
For any changes in the number series, the government would have to take a decision. Considering the districts in Telangana state, the number series is likely to change upon reorganization.
'The Centre provides TG series, whereas the State government decides the number series, which can be changed. It will be a policy decision,' the official explained.
The department has also given respite to vehicle owners who are keen to register their vehicle. These vehicle owners can register their vehicle even after the expiry of the mandatory 30 days' time after temporary registration.
Joint Transport Commissioner T Raghunath told that vehicle owners could wait and can register after June 2 for the TG series. Replying to a question, the JTC said that the number of registrations had gone down during the last fortnight.
