Balaiah too in the race for cabinet berth HYDERABAD: What will be the choice of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's brother- in-law and film actor N Balakrishna with regard to his portfolio, if he is inducted into the Cabinet?
According to sources, Balakrishna, elected from Hindupur Assembly segment, is confident that he would be made part of Naidu's government in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
It is learnt that the film actor is eying key ministries such as medical and health, panchayat raj, education and tourism. Some TDP leaders say Balaiah's first choice would be medical and health.
The reason is that the film actor, who is running Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad to provide quality treatment to patients belonging to middle and downtrodden classes at affordable cost, wants to improve medical facilities in Seemandhra by becoming the health minister.
Apart from this, as TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had promised that his government would improve the existing 'Rajiv Arogya Sri' health insurance scheme, Balaiah is of the opinion that if he can become the health minister he could implement it efficiently.
Naidu is said to be planning to rename the scheme after party founder the late NT Rama Rao. Meanwhile, the film actor is considering education, panchayat raj and tourism ministries as his next choice of portfolios, sources say.
'Though Balakrishna is a first-time MLA, he is keen on giving good governance to the people. He wants to make his mark on the administration,' said a senior TDP leader, who is close to the film actor.
