TRS leaders scramble for Medak seat HYDERABAD: With Telangana Chief Minister-designate K Chandrasekhara Rao resigning to his Medak Lok Sabha seat, political parties are getting ready for the inevitable byelection.
Chandrasekhara Rao, who was in Delhi on Monday to attend the swearingin ceremony of Narendra Modi as prime minister, sent his resignation letter to the Lok Sabha secretary general, retaining his Gajwel Assembly seat.
There is scramble within the TRS for the Medak seat as it is perceived that winning from there is very easy. This is because Chandrasekhara Rao won the seat with 3.97 lakh votes majority, defeating his nearest rival P Shravan Kumar Reddy.
According to sources, Chandrasekhara Rao, being confident of winning the elections in Telangana, had told K Prabhakar Reddy, who is close to him that he would field him for Medak Lok Sabha seat since he would be vacating the seat to take over as the chief minister of Telangana state.
Prabhakar Reddy was interested in contesting the Dubbak Assembly seat, but Chandrasekhara Rao had to allot it to S Ramalinga Reddy at the request of his close confidants Desapati Srinivas and N Siddareddy.
At that time, Chandrasekhara Rao reportedly told Prabhakar Reddy to hang on as he has plans of sending him to the Lok Sabha. The other TRS leader who has his eyes set on the Medak Lok Sabha seat is party district president and former MLA R Satyanarayana, who earlier wanted to contest Sangareddy Assembly seat. But KCR had to accommodate Chinta Prabhakar in that constituency.
At that time, KCR had reportedly told Satyanarayana that he would make his candidate of choice as Zilla Parishad chairman (it is reserved for BC Woman) and asked him to have someone from his family contest ZPTC seat.
Satyanarayana had a relative won Kondapur ZPTC, but he is now having second thoughts. He appears intersted in going to the Lok Sabha, rather than making his relative the ZP chairperson.
Satyanarayana reportedly told KCR that he may be considered for Medak Lok Sabha seat in view of the fact that six months after he became an MLC, having a term of six years, he resigned in pursuance of the call by KCR to that effect.
Then, there is former IAS officer KV Ramanachary who is also interested in contesting from Medak Lok Sabha constituency. After he joined the TRS, he was taken into the politburo and promised an important position in the party befitting his stature.
As he hails from Siddipet in Medak district, he is reportedly staking his claim for the LS seat. TNGO president G Devi Prasada Rao is also in the race, sources said.
