TDP-BJP combine seeks to own up PV HYDERABAD: It looks like the Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party combine seeks to own up former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, by running down the already beleaguered Congress party which had shown disgrace and disregard towards the departed leader.
Playing the Telangana self-respect card to the hilt, TDP president and Chief Minister-designate of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday promised to build a befitting national monument for former premier P V Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.
Addressing party workers and delegates at the 33rd annual convention of TDP at Gandipet, the TDP president raised the issue of disgrace and dishonour shown by Congress party to the former Prime Minister.
Taking a dig at the way Rao was 'hounded' by the Sonia Gandhi family after his death, Naidu pointed out that the body of the former PM was unceremoniously shipped to Hyderabad instead of being given the rightful place among the Prime Ministers of the country at Delhi.
'PV introduced economic reforms and saved the nation from bankruptcy in 1990s. He served the Congress party all through his life and brought name and fame to the nation with his intellectual and administrative talents.
But the Congress Party has not even thought of building a monument in respect of the great leader,' Naidu said and added that he would pursue the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and see that a great monument was constructed for PV in the national capital.
It may be mentioned that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the issue of humiliation meted out to PV during his pre-election speeches. Now, Naidu wants to take the help of Modi to build a memorial for the former Prime Minister, which would only be rubbing salt on the wounds of the Congress bosses!
