AP gets 4 T MPs, Telangana gets 2 Andhras HYDERABAD: A draw of lots held to allot seven Rajya Sabha members to Telangana and 11 to the residual Andhra Pradesh ahead of division of the State threw up interesting results ' four Telangana MPs found themselves on Andhra's side and two Andhra members on Telangana's side.
Vice-President Hamid Ansari picked up names through the draw of lots. K Keshava Rao, MA Khan, T Devender Goud and Renuka Chowdhury ' all belonging to Telangana ' have been allotted to Andhra. CM Ramesh and KVP Ramachandra Rao, both from Andhra, have been allotted to Telangana.
The First Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act states that 18 members of the Upper House will be divided between the residual state and Telangana based upon 'drawing lots' to be organised by Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
The lottery was to take place Thursday but it did not happen as the members raised apprehensions regarding their privileges and rights in case they were allotted to a State to which they do not belong.
After the allotment, Union Minister Prakash Javadekhar sought to allay their fears, promising to bring out an executive order that allows them to spend their MPLADS funds in the State of their choice.
Speaking to the media later, K Keshava Rao said, 'I was born in Hyderabad. I will continue to be a Telangana Rajya Sabha member. The only difference is that after I vacate my seat, it will go to Andhra.'
