Jana Reddy elected CLP leader in Telangana Hyderabad, June 3: Former Minister and senior politician from Nalgonda district K.Jana Reddy has been unanimously elected as Congress Legislature Party leader in Telangana Assembly on Tuesday.

Twenty out of the 21 Congress MLAs attended the meeting while Mudhole MLA Vithal Reddy could not make it due to personal reasons. Sources said the party leadership was unable to arrive at a consensus as there were at least three serious contenders.
Jana Reddy, TPCC working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and D.K.Aruna plunged head long mobilizing support for their candidature. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, K Jana Reddy said that he will work to strengthen Congress party and make sure it emerges victorious in 2019 Polls.
Congress, which went it alone in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, could secure only one Lok Sabha and 21 assembly seats in Telangana and was routed in residual Andhra Pradesh.

He was among the most prominent cabinet ministers of the congress and also served as Minister for Home, Jails, Fire Service, Sainik Welfare, Printing & Stationery government led by the late former Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy from 2004 to 2009.
In 2009 elections he won with narrow margin against Industrialist turned politician of TDP Chinappa Reddy Tera. In 2014 he won with a narrow margin over Nomula Narsimhaiah of TRS in the year where Congress lost the majority vote. Now, the responsibility lies on Jana Reddy to revive the party in Telangana.
