Harassment drives wife to suicide bid VIJAYAWADA: A woman set herself ablaze due to alleged harassment by her husband near Sunnambattila centre under Machavaram police station limits in the city Monday night. The victim has been identified as Sirisha (25), wife of Parsa Anupam Kumar, a worker in a foundry.
Anupam Kumar, who tried to save her during the incident, also suffered burn injuries. The condition of Sirisha, who is undergoing treatment at the government general hospital here is said to be critical. The condition of Anupam, however, is stated to be stable.
According to the Machavaram police, Anupam Kumar has been harassing Sirisha for quite sometime due to his alleged extra-marital relationship with another woman.
On Monday night, the couple had a heated argument over the issue and Sirisha doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze. Anupam also suffered burn injuries in the incident.
Sirisha had been first shifted to a private hospital in the night and later moved to the government general hospital around 4.30 am on Tuesday.
The police said that they had registered a case against Anupam under Section 498 A of IPC and other sections. The couple have an eight-month-old daughter.
