Komatireddy dragged to HC over education claim HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court directed former minister and Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to file his counter in a petition that charged him with furnishing false information about his educational qualifications. The Election Commission too was directed to come out with ways of launching FIRs against errant people.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a writ petition by Dubbaka Narsimha Reddy, TRS candidate who lost the election.
He wanted the authorities to reject the nomination of Komatireddy for allegedly giving false information in the nomination papers. Komatireddy has won the election in the recently concluded Assembly polls from Nalgonda Assembly segment.
The counsel for Election Commission Avinash Desai, however, told the bench that it is not practically possible for them to verify the veracity of the credentials furnished by the candidates on the day of scrutiny of nominations.
'Only one day is given to us and within such a short span of time we cannot come to a conclusion and decisively initiate FIRs' he added. The petitioner submitted that Komatireddy had falsely declared himself as an engineering graduate.
As per the information provided by the Osmania University, Venkat Reddy joined the BE course in 1983 and appeared for Ist year exams and failed. Similarly he failed in other semesters and has not registered himself after 1989. Later, his admission itself was cancelled and he has no degree of BE, the petitioner pointed out.
On the other hand, the counsel arguing for Venkat Reddy said the petition was not maintainable and urged for its dismissal. The bench then directed the Congress leader to file counter in a week's time and adjourned the case hearing.
