Modi Govt committed to Polavaram says Venkaiah VIJAYAWADA: Union minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu has reiterated his government's commitment to the construction of the Polavaram project. Terming it the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, he rubbished the controversy over the project.
The BJP government at the Centre has already proved its commitment to the project by promulgating an ordinance on the merger of some mandals of Khammam district with Andhra Pradesh.
However, he said the Union government will take steps for the development of both Telangana and Seemandhra states and asked the forces that are trying to create a rift between the two states to stop whipping up regional jingoism.
Addressing BJP activists at the Siddhartha Auditorium here on Saturday, he asked those who are resorting to personal attack on him to refrain from such acts and reminded them that he has never believed that he belongs to any particular caste or region as he thinks that all are equal.
Stating that the UPA government has done gross injustice to Seemandhra by bifurcating the state without developing the region, he said that his party would fulfil all the promises made before the elections.
''Special status will be accorded to AP for five years. If at all it needs extension, it may look into it. It's not a big issue,' he said.
