New policy will woo investors, create jobs: Ganta VISAKHAPATNAM: The state government will formulate a new industrial policy to attract investments in various sectors and provide more jobs in the private sector for unemployed youth, said minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.
He said that the decision to increase the age limit for government employees would not be an obstacle for providing jobs for Gen-Y as the government was keen on generating more job opportunities in the private sector.
Addressing 'Meet-the-Press' programme organised by Vizag Journalists Forum here, Srinivasa Rao said that the government's motto was 'development without destruction' and all developmental projects including the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Industrial Region (PCPIR) between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada would be taken up as per the new policy.
'The land acquisition and setting up of industries will not be taken up without the affected people being taken on board,' he said. When the issue of the bauxite mining project which was started by the then TDP government in Visakhapatnam agency area against the wishes of tribals was brought up, he said that the government would work as per the people's aspirations and not hesitate to review the mining project if there were objections.
To a question on up-gradation of Andhra University into a central university, the minister said that though there was a demand for it, some opined that local youth might be deprived of admission into the historic university if it was upgraded.
He said that the state government would study all possible options before making any proposals to the Central government. The government is also considering the establishment of a tribal university in Visakhapatnam, he said.
On the demand for making Vizag the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Srinivasa Rao said that even if the state government chooses the location of new capital elsewhere in the state, Vizag would be developed as a financial capital on par with Singapore.
'We want the development to be diversified. Apart from the proposed IT Investment Region, we will also present our case for an IIT and an IIM in Visakhapatnam,' he added.
On the merger of Anakapalle and Bheemili in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), the minister said that a decision would be taken after consulting all the stakeholders.
