AP capital: Naidu's decision final NEW DELHI : The members of an expert committee, tasked with examining the potential locations for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, will meet Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu over the weekend to seek his views on the matter.
The committee, which has gone through half of the area it was mandated to examine, is said to be of the view that it was the responsibility of the elected government to take a final call on the choice of location.
The committee wants to ascertain the views and preferences of the new Chief Minister. Naidu has already indicated his preference for the Vijayawada-Guntur region and in fact he chose to take oath at a site just off the Guntur city.
'We would like to know what the CM has in mind regarding the choice of the new capital. We would also like to understand the pros and cons of various sites.
At the same time, we would like to brief the Chief Minister about our concerns and the mandate given to us,' a senior member of the expert committee said.
Sources in the expert committee said that they had already covered half the area assigned to them to look out for the new site. So far, the committee has covered the area from Visakhapatnam to Guntur during its field visits.
A senior expert said that they were surprised by the level of emotions that each potential site evoked among the people. Most of the field visits so far were conducted at the District Collectors' offices. Not less than 150-200 people came to give their representations.
