Flyover near Durga temple in three years: Kesineni VIJAYAWADA: Local MP Kesineni Srinivas aka Nani said here that the long-pending proposal for a flyover at the Kanaka Durga temple would be taken up soon and completed in three years.
The MP, along with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director Vijaya Kumar and deputy executive engineer Sasirekha, inspected the stretch between Vidyadharapuram and Kanaka Durga Varadhi where the flyover was proposed.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, the MP said that two options -- constructing a bridge over river Krishna and a flyover on the existing road -- were being considered.
'The matter will be pursued with Union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari. We shall try to complete the project in less than three years,' the MP said.
Nani said it had come to his knowledge that the state government would send the designs for approval of the Union government shortly. The estimated cost of the project was between `170 crore and `200 crore. The four-lane 2.7-km flyover was expected to ease traffic snarls near the foothill of the Indrakeeladri.
TDP Urban president Buddha Venkanna said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had directed the officials to take up the project on priority basis.
It may be recalled that the TDP and the Congress were involved in acrimonious accusations against each other over the issue during the erstwhile Congress government.
Two years ago, former Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said that it would not be possible to construct the proposed flyover and staged a dharna in an attempt to counter the TDP's 'maha dharna' in which its president Chandrababu Naidu took part.
Vijayawada thasildhar R Siva Rao, assistant engineer Rudra and several TDP leaders took part in the inspection.
