Registrations change from AP to TS is now free Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has decided not to levy charges on consumers changing the existing vehicle registration documents in Telangana from AP to TS series.
A notification for change of vehicle registration numbers from AP to TS was issued. With Transport Department issuing the Gazette notification, all the new vehicles have been registered in the TS series from Wednesday.
Similarly, all the older vehicle registration numbers with AP series would have to change their number plates and documents to TS series within four months.
All the rules and Acts in united Andhra Pradesh would be applicable in Telangana also. The words AP would be replaced by TS in the Acts. Earlier, the central government had approved vehicle number series as TG, but later changed it to TS after a special request from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
The government on Tuesday released the district-wise codes applicable for the vehicles. As per the GO, the code for Adilabad would be 01, followed by Karimnagar-TS 02, Warangal-TS 03, Khammam-TS 04, Nalgonda-TS 05, Nizamabad-TS 16 and Hyderabad from TS 09 to TS14.
The Road Transport Corporation vehicles would have 'Z' as the primary series. Similarly, police vehicles would have P with 9 number series and for transport vehicles, the alphabetical codes would be T, U, V, W, X and Y.
Penalty would be levied on vehicle owners if they fail to get their vehicle registered in the TS series. The government had decided not to collect charges for all types of vehicles that go in for a change in registration from AP to TS.
Meanwhile, lack of clarity on the registration series and district codes in the transport department had made the registrations go down in the last fortnight.
According to officials, only 1,000 vehicles are turning up for registration everyday against the usual 3,000 vehicles in the State.
Of these 3,000, nearly 1,000 vehicles are registered in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts alone. Since the formation of Telangana on June 2, the number has dwindled as the allotment of registration numbers was suspended pending finalization of the district-wise codes.
