Three Maoists killed in Nallamala encounter GUNTUR: After a long lull, three Maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with the police deep in the Nallamala forest between Guntur and Prakasam on Thursday. The exchange of fire took place at Murarikunta in Bollapalli mandal, Guntur district.
Guntur rural SP J Satyanarayana said the exact location was yet to be identified as there was confusion over whether the area is in Guntur or Prakasam.
The slain Maoists have been identified as Jana Babu Rao alias Ashok (48), Vimala alias Nirmala (38) and Bharathi (35). Vimala was said to be the wife of Babu Rao.
Vikram, a Maoist who is heading an action team in Mahbubnagar district, however, managed to escape. Babu Rao was the CPI (Maoist) Prakasam district committee member and was carrying a reward of `five lakh on his head. Vimala was carrying a reward of `four lakh and Bharathi `three lakh.
The police recovered one AK 47, one SLR, .303 riffle, and ammunition from the encounter spot. It is said that a special police party and Greyhounds personnel had been fanning out across the Nallamala forest in coordination with the Guntur and Prakasam police for a long time as they had inputs about the movement of Babu Rao and two others.
A police team ran into the Maoists Thursday and warned them to surrender but they opened fire forcing the police to retaliate.
