KCR takes power struggle to Delhi HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has decided to counter AP's arguments effectively on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday directed Principal Secretary (Energy) Suresh Chanda to camp in New Delhi and present the government's case before the Central government.
The move comes a day after the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) rejected the AP government's plea for cancellation of draft PPAs and subsequent indications that the latter is mulling legal options.
Suresh Chanda, who is currently in Delhi, will camp there for a few more days to inform the Centre of the Telangana government's intention to honour the AP Reorganisation Act-2014 and ensure that power is shared between the two States ' Telangana and AP ' as per law on the basis of consumption of the last five years. The Act states that existing PPAs should be implemented for 10 years so that Telangana doesn't lose around 460 MW.
Suresh Chanda and his team will explain to the Centre that Telangana has power deficit and argue that cancellation of PPAs as demanded by AP would be detrimental to the interests of its farmers. The Centre, on its part, is in favour of going by the Reorganisation Act.
Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao also held a review meeting with Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao and others on PPAs and power supply situation in the State. He made it clear the government was making efforts to overcome power shortage.
The meeting discussed ways of purchasing power in the short-term and identified two-three sources for the same. The neighbouring State governments too responded positively to supply power to Telangana.
