Bonhomie over, YSRC skips maiden BAC meeting HYDERABAD: The bonhomie between the TDP and the YSRC has not lasted even for 48 hours. Both the parties, which had been observing temporary ceasefire till the other day, seem to have begun crossing swords with each other openly.
The principal opposition party, which had extended its support to the TDP in electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly the other day, skipped the first meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the House, held here on Saturday to decide the agenda of the House for the remaining two days of the ongoing session.
Indicating that a possible confrontation is in the offing between the members of the two parties, the YSRC chief and leader of the Opposition Jagan Mohan Reddy chose to boycott the maiden meeting of the BAC.
The reason for Jagan abstaining the BAC meeting is that the ruling party had turned down his request of allowing three members of his party to represent it in the BAC.
Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao on Saturday constituted the BAC of the new House by holding consultations with the government and the principal Opposition.
The Speaker brought down the number of total representatives of various parties in the BAC from the existing 11 to 7. Of these seven, four will represent the treasury benches, one will be from BJP and the remaining two from the YSRC.
''In the 294-member Assembly, there were 11 representatives from all parties in the BAC. But, now after bifurcation, the Seemandhra Assembly's numerical strength stands at 175. As per that, the Speaker has decided to reduce the size of the BAC to 7,' reasoned Chief Whip Kalava Srinivasulu.
However, YSRC MLA Jyothula Nehru differed with this and said they had demanded a proper representation be given to their party in the BAC. ''As per our numerical strength, the government should incorporate at least 3 members of our party in the BAC,' he added.
Motion on Guv Speech Tomorrow
According to Chief Whip Srinivasulu thanksgiving motion on governor ESL Narasimhan's address would be taken up for debate by the Assembly on Monday.
The discussion will continue till Tuesday, which is the last day of the present session. On Monday and Tuesday, the House would begin at 9.00 a.m and end at 2.00 p.m.
