One held for creating actress' fake FB page HYDERABAD: The Cyber Crime Police of Central Crime Station arrested an assistant general manager of a private college on Saturday for creating a fake account of a small-time actress on the social networking site of Facebook and collecting Rs 52,000 in the name of charity.
The actress came to know about her fake account on Facebook and that the operator collected money inn her name for charity. She lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police who arrested M Sandeep Kumar (24), a resident of Indra Colony on Madhira Road in Tiruvuru in Krishna district and assistant general manager of a college.
Deputy commissioner of police (CCS) G Pala Raju said the accused had been operating Facebook since 2008. About four months ago, he had gone through the Facebook profile of Siri Siri, copied her profile and pictures, and created her fake profile.
He operates that fake profile with another fake e-mail ID created for this sake. He follows her profile daily and updates it on this fake profile.
'Apart from collecting and posting pictures of the actress, he used this profile for collecting money in the name of charity purportedly for children. Through this profile he collected Rs 52,000 so far from various who believed that it was Siri Siri who was seeking funds,' police said.
In another case, the Cyber Crime Police arrested a man for sending abusive and vulgar messages to women, and calling them over phone and harassing them at odd times.
The arrested man is Pampanna Subramanyam, (30), a trader in tractor spares and resident of Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district.
He would call up telephone numbers at random and, if women happen to answer his calls, he would note down their numbers and track them thoroughly. He collected the phone numbers of about half a dozen women and called them up regularly and sent them abusive SMSes.
