TDP govt to prosecute Gangi Reddy Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh government issued orders to prosecute Kollam Gangi Reddy, one of the accused in the Alipiri assassination attempt on chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in 2003, for offences related to producing false details to obtain a passport.
The government in a GO said that permission was given to prosecute Gangi Reddy in a case that had been registered in Tirupati East police station in 2014 under three sections, all of which deal with 'knowingly furnishing any false information or suppressing any information with a view to obtain a passport or travel document'.
Gangi Reddy, who got bail on May 15, is believed to have fled to Dubai on May 21 after obtaining a passport by providing false information.
Apart from being one of the accused in the assassination attempt on Naidu, Gangi Reddy is also reportedly involved in smuggling of red sanders in Seshachalam forests.
It may be recalled that in late May, Naidu had expressed his dissatisfaction in a letter to the Governor ESL Narasimhan about the 'irresponsible and negligent' conduct of the police, who, he alleged, had allowed Gangi Reddy to escape.
He had also requested the Governor to direct the police to take immediate steps to arrest Gangi Reddy, even if issuing a red-corner notice was necessary. He also suggested confiscating properties of Gangi Reddy as per the criminal procedure code as the accused had jumped bail.
