AP Assembly to pass a resolution on Polavaram VIJAYAWADA: Minister for irrigation and command area development Devineni Umamaheswara Rao here Sunday said that the state government would pass a resolution on the Polavaram project in the Assembly asking the Union government to take steps for the completion of the project. He also said that the water would be released for the Krishna delta on June 25.
Speaking to newsmen after inaugurating the newly constructed irrigation office on the Irrigation Circle Office premises here, he said a resolution would be tabled in the Assembly by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the Polavaram project Monday.
'Discussions are on with officials on how to procure funds from the Centre for the Polavaram project, which is seen as the life line for the people of Andhra Pradesh,' the minister said and added that the state government would accord top priority to irrigate the lands in truncated Andhra Pradesh and see that all the tail-end lands of the canals would get the water.
The minister also informed that discussions were held with the irrigation officials of Telangana state regarding the release of 10 TMC of water from Nagarjuna Sagar to meet drinking water requirements.
Uma said that the work of erecting crest gates is going on at the Pulichintala project. Water could be impounded at the project, if the work is complete, he informed.
On the newly constructed irrigation office, Uma said that the office was set up to ensure that the irrigation officials were available to the farmers of the 13 districts and informed that the higher officials at Hyderabad are willing to come to Vijayawada. The minister will also have his camp office on the same premises.
Excise minister Kollu Ravindra, Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao, MLAs Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao, Sriram Rajagopal, MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao, collector M Raghunandan Rao, Irrigation principal secretary Adityanadh Das, engineer-in-chief M Venkateswara Rao, chief engineer of Krishna delta system D Sambaiah, SEs, EEs and DEs of 13 Seemandhra districts attended the programme.
