Attacker of DRDO scientist addicted to narcotic HYDERABAD: The juvenile pickpocket, who was on the run after attacking a senior DRDO official with a razor blade after he was caught while stealing a cellphone here on Sunday, has been apprehended, police said.
Hussaini Alam police sent him to juvenile court from where he was sent to government hostel. Police said they nabbed him from his residence on Tuesday morning.
The 16-year old, a resident of Shahinnagar near Venkatapur, in Pahadishareef confessed his addiction to use of whitener and said that he was habituated to petty thefts to meet his daily requirements. He told police that he regretted his act and that he had reacted without any forethought when he was caught red handed.
He lives with his two brothers and parents. According to police, the boy attended school only till class five. 'He went to a Urdu medium school and was rusticated following an altercation with classmates. Since then, he has been doing nothing in particular,' said inspector A Balaji.
Quoting his parents, who are aware of his activities, the inspector added, 'he would not listen to us. We are tired of trying to correct his behaviour.'
Meanwhile the DRDO scientist RK Satpathy is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kanchanbagh here. Satpathy was in the city for attending a conference.
While he along with his colleagues were returning to their car after shopping at Charminar, the juvenile pickpocket snatched a mobile phone of Satpathy's colleague and tried to flee. He was immediately caught by some locals and while the police were being informed, the boy took out a shaving blade, slashed Satpathy and fled.
