Naidu, Jagan using Assembly to settle political scores: CPI HYDERABAD: Criticising TDP and the YSRC for not taking up people's issues during the first session of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, CPI Andhra Pradesh state secretary K Ramakrishna accused leader of the House N Chandrababu Naidu and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of using the Assembly for settling political scores.
Speaking to reporters here, Ramakrishna said that the state was passing through a difficult times and both Naidu and Jagan instead of taking up issues pertaining to the state are using Assembly to settle political scores.
''After bifurcation, both the states, especially AP, were facing lot of problems and there is an urgent need to sort out issues between the two states. But instead of discussing these problems both the leaders played 'political one-upmanship', he alleged.
The CPI leader said that the state has a fiscal deficit of over Rs 15,000 crore and there are issues of water sharing, power, revenue and other important issues. The chief minister should take an all- party delegation to New Delhi and exert pressure on the Centre for extending financial assistance to the state, he said.
''Due to delay in monsoon there is acute shortage of water in the state and farmers were not able to take up kharif operations. Already farmers were in great stress as the government had till now not waived crop loans and the delay in monsoon had further aggravated their problems,' he said.
Coming down heavily on the behaviour of chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the senior CPI leader said that both the chief ministers were behaving irresponsibly and were provoking the people of both the states. He said that both the chief ministers should leave personal differences and work together for the welfare of Telugu people.
Welcoming the decision of the AP government to celebrate Independence Day in Kurnool, Ramakrishna urged the AP chief minister to release all the political prisoners and life term convicts who have completed seven years of imprisonment on the occasion.
He said that the TDP had promised to release all the political prisoners and even included it in its poll manifesto. As a goodwill gesture it should release the prisoners.
