Naidu to discuss Spl status to AP with Modi HYDERABAD: AP Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to take up the issue of according special status to Andhra Pradesh with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he meets him at Delhi on Thursday.
As Andhra Pradesh inherited a Rs.15,000 crore nonplan deficit budget after bifurcation of the state, Naidu is also expected to argue for allocation of special grant to the state to help it tide over in the current financial year.
The chief minister, during his two-day visit to the national capital, will also confer with Union ministers Arun Jaitely, Sadananda Gowda, Uma Bharathi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Smriti Irani and Piyush Goel.
The chief minister will seek early clearance to the proposal for according special status to Seemandhra, fulfillment of promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act which include financial packages and institutions.
The chief minister might seek relaxation of Fiscal Responsibilty and Budget Management, deferment of repayment of central government loans and of course the most crucial one, financial assistance for building a new capital city for Andhra Pradesh.
He may also seek help form Union finance minister Arun Jaitely in waiving crop loans of farmers in the state as it amounts to a staggering Rs.83,000 crore.
Though Naidu sent a team led by former Nabard chairman P Kotaiah to RBI governor Rahguram Rajan, the banking regular had reportedly told the delegation that he could not help them out. Naidu would want the Centre to help AP rise to the Telangana level in the initial years as it has lost a well developed capital city of Hyderabad to Telangana.
Till such time a level playing field is created, he wants Central largess for the state and grounding of the works relating to setting up of institutions like IIT, IIM, AIIMS as promised in the AP.
