Telangana Mulls Jharkhand route on nativity Issue HYDERABAD: Andhras, who migrated to Telangana before Nov 1, 1956 and continue to be residents of the State, may get fee reimbursement for their children.
The State government is actively considering this option for deciding the nativity of students for the scheme. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a review meeting on the issue at the Secretariat here Thursday.
The AP government wants the Telangana government to reimburse fee to all students of AP studying in Telangana.
According to reliable sources, the most discussed option at the meeting was the 1956 rider. If this is finally adopted, parents who migrated to Telangana before Nov 1, 1956 will have to produce evidence to prove that they have been residents of the State ever since.
The sources also said nomenclature of the scheme would be withdrawn and a new name would be introduced to reflect 'nativity' as the criterion.
This idea was taken up from the Jharkhand government, which implemented a similar scheme on nativity basis. 'Most probably, Jharkhand idea may be explored,' the sources said.
Besides this, there are several other options too before the Telangana government. 'Any decision taken by the Telangana government will become a precedent for others.
That is why Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao is exploring various other options too,' the sources said. According to them, KCR categorically told officials that taking a policy decision on the nativity of students was a 'legitimate right' of the Telangana government and no one could question it.
