TRS set to capture Council chief's post Hyderabad : Thanks to the en mass joining of members of legislative council, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) may stake claim over the post of Chairman of Legislative Council with the support of MIM.
After the division of the state, 40 seats out of 90 were allocated to Telangana and the House presently has 35 members. To stake claim for the Chairman's post, the TRS should have 18 seats. As per the official records the council has 17 Congress MLCs, seven TRS, six TDP, two MIM, two teachers and one PDF.
With nine members joining the party on Wednesday, the TRS is inching closer to the majority mark in the Council. The seven members of the party include Mahamood Ali, Swamy Goud, Sudhakar Reddy, P Narender Reddy, Naini Narasimha Reddy and Ramulu Naik (both elected under the Governor's quota) recently.
MLC Kapilavai Dileep is technically still the member of TRS even though he is out of the party for some time. The Congress party's seats have decreased to 12 from 17 since the members joined TRS on Wednesday. Similarly, the two TDP MLCs, including the floor leader B Venkateshwarlu and Md Saleem too joined TRS.
The tally of TRS has increased from seven to 16 with nine MLCs joining the party and it still needs two MLCs to get majority in the House. The MIM has two members and the TRS may seek its support in the House.
After elections, the MIM has come closer to the TRS as the visit of TRS leaders KT Rama Rao, Naini Narasimha Reddy, T Padma Rao Goud had convinced the MIM leaders to lean towards TRS leaving away their age-old partner Congress. The party feels that there would not be any problem for the Bills to be passed if the Council Chairman is from the party.
Party leader K Swamy Goud is the likely candidate for the Chairman's post. He was supposed to be the minister in the KCR's cabinet but the caste equations had not permitted the TRS chief to include Swamy Goud.
The TRS chief had promised ministry for Swamy Goud and V Srinivas Goud but it would mean three Goud candidates in cabinet as already Padma Rao Goud is the minister in the cabinet.
