Demolitions reach Nagarjuna's door step HYDERABAD: After demolishing over two dozen unauthorised under-construction buildings at the Gurukul Trust lands, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation sealed 11 buildings including a few shopping complexes. And now, it is mulling action against actor Akkineni Nagarjuna's N-Convention Centre following a report from Rangareddy revenue authorities.
The N-Convention Centre is valued at almost `400 crore and is spread across 10 acres. Sources said joint teams of revenue and irrigation departments of the Rangareddy district administration and the GHMC are carrying out a survey of Full Tank Level (FTL) of the Tammidi Kunta ' the allegation against Nagarjuna is that he has built the centre by encroaching upon the tank bed.
If it is found that the centre was indeed built by encroaching upon the tank bed, the GHMC will first slap notices on Nagarjuna and take action as per law, including sealing the premises, revealed GHMC officials.
The N-Convention Centre, which also houses a modern function hall, hosts several high profile events of Tollywood stars and politicians. The GHMC move comes in the wake of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's directive to protect Gurukul lands at any cost.
The N-Convention Centre too is in the same area. GHMC, which has sealed buildings in the area, has put up notices warning that constructions on Gurukul Trust lands without permission will be demolished.
Every unauthorised building will be marked as 'illegal' for easy identification. People who construct such buildings may face up to three years' imprisonment.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar clarified their intention was not to trouble anybody. 'The drive is meant for protecting government lands,' he explained, adding that an awareness campaign would be launched soon.
