Naidu urges Modi to bend RBI rules HYDERABAD: TDP leaders are busy speculating whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will positively respond to the pleas of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the Centre's help to the State government in implementing the crop loan waiver scheme.
According to sources, the Chief Minister presented a long list of demands to the Prime Minister during his one-on-one with him at Sriharikota on Sunday night.
Naidu, who could not meet Modi during his recent Delhi visit because of GAIL pipeline blast in East Godavari district, tried to use the opportunity to plead with him to prevail upon the Reserve Bank of India to accept the State government's proposal of issuing security bonds to bankers in lieu of hard cash for the implementation of crop loan waiver scheme.
Naidu had gone to Sriharikota to welcome the Prime Minister. TDP sources said during his brief meeting with the Prime Minister, Naidu had tried to convince him to persuade RBI to relax norms and cooperate with the AP government.
Naidu also requested Modi to accord special category status to AP at the earliest apart from ensuring speedy disbursal of funds to the State to meet its revenue deficit.
CM is also learnt to have discussed the issue of Telangana's opposition to the Polavaram Ordinance. Meanwhile, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao too has decided to take up the issue with Modi next week.
