Giddaluru YSRC leader's death sparks protest ONGOLE: Tension prevailed in Prakasam district's Giddaluru over suspicious death of a YSRC leader. The incident occurred at Giddaluru late Monday night.
It is said that YSRC leader and Giddaluru Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) president Vija Vijayabhaskar Reddy (48) went to Giddaluru police station Monday night regarding a case and collapsed there.
There was a dispute between Subba Rao who runs a Hero Honda showroom and Harinath Reddy, a doctor, staying at DRR Plaza. As Giddaluru SI Srinivasa Rao called both parties to the police station, Vijayabhaskar Reddy went on behalf of Harinatha Reddy as the latter complained that the SI had misbehaved with him and his family members.
Harinatha Reddy alleged that the SI had attacked Vijayabhaksar Reddy when he questioned the SI's misbehaviour following which he immediately collapsed. Though Vijayabhaskar Reddy was immediately rushed to hospital he died on the way itself at around 12.30 am.
As the news spread, Giddaluru MLA Muttumula Ashok Reddy rushed to the police station and staged a protest opposite the PS with Vijayabhaskar Reddy's body.
Enraged at the police behaviour, YSRC activists rushed to the PS in big numbers and staged a protest all through the night. A bandh was observed at Giddaluru Tuesday and protests were staged at various places in the district.
Sensing the fury, Ongole additional superintendent of police Ram Naik rushed to the spot and held discussions with the MLA and promised that action would be taken against the SI after an inquiry.
He immediately ordered for sending the SI to vacancy reserve and said that postmortem would be done under the supervision of a DSP-level officer from outside the district. Later the postmortem was done but the report is yet to come.
