Ambiguity over Hi security number plate continues HYDERABAD : Uncertainty continues to haunt vehicle owners in Telangana State over the implementation of high security registration plates (HSRP) as RTA officials are awaiting fresh orders from the new government.
The State government in united Andhra Pradesh had issued a notification for implementation of the HSRP on the directions of Supreme Court. The apex court had directed the government to implement the HSRP to new as well as to all old vehicles.
The department had started implementing the new vehicles from December 11, 2013 and said that they would implement the scheme to older vehicles within 90 days.
More than six months have passed and the department is yet to make any announcement on the conversion of older vehicles into HSRP. The officials in the department said that bifurcation of the State had impacted the implementation of HSRP.
Lack of coordination between the agency that was given the contract and transport department has worsen the situation with officials claiming that they have no idea as to how many vehicles were being registered with HRSP across Telangana.
A senior official in the department said, 'Please don't ask us about the high security number plates, we don't know what the authorized agency is doing and who is taking care of that project.'
The official said that they were giving away temporary registrations and after that it is up to the vehicle owners to get HSRP fixed. He also said that it had come to their notice that several vehicle owners were converting their temporary numbers into permanent HSRP. Bifurcation and change in the series of vehicles have hampered progress on this front.
'Many vehicle owners are not coming forward as they are not sure whether to get their older vehicles HSRP,' said a motor vehicle inspector. The government had issued orders recently that all older vehicles would be converted into TS series, but there is no clarity on whether the number plate needs to be upgraded to HSRP.
'We are expecting the vehicle registration to pick in a month's time. Presently, the software integration is going on with the transport department,' said Link Autotech Pvt Ltd representative, Mukesh Agarwal.
