SAIL to set up steel plant in Bayyaram
HYDERABAD: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is likely to set up a steel factory in Bayyaram in Khammam district. Though a formal announcement is yet to be made, the state government is understood to have more or less finalised it and is likely to give the go-ahead to SAIL shortly.
SAIL team inspected iron ore availability in the district and the feasible place to set up the steel plant.
The Bayyaram iron ore mining lease entrusted by the previous Rajasekhara Reddy government ran into a controversy. The TRS opposed the allotment of vast extent of lands to Rakshana Steels. Following this, the agreement between Rakshana Steel and the government was cancelled.
Now, the Telangana government is making serious efforts to set up a steel plant in Bayyaram and asked the steel giant to do the ground survey. Though there were surveys on the availability of iron in the state there are very old.
'The surveys are 20-year-old. We want to know the exact iron ore available and the content of iron. The SAIL team is already on the job of conducting the survey,' official sources revealed.
If the steel factory comes up in Bayyaram, Sail can also use the iron more mineral available in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh state. ''SAIL has financial resources. The government may asked SAIL to start the steel factory soon,' a top official said.
Mini Steel Plants: Meanwhile, the NSL Consolidated Limited which has agreed to start a pellet industry in Karimnagar and Siddipet are also planning to start mini-steel plants.
As the content of iron in the mineral available in Karimnagar and Medak districts was around 35 per cent, the NSLCL may start pig iron factory.
12 Sites for Hero Motocrop: The Hero Motocrop team has visited as many as 12 sites in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana and a decision is awaited.
