A Combined ATA and NATA Convention? Philadelphia, USA: Telugu community leader and a big supporter of both American Telugu Association (ATA) and North American Telugu Association (NATA) Dr. Prem Sagar Reddy made a proposal at the ATA opening ceremony on July 3rd to conduct a joint ATA and NATA Convention next time.
Dr. Reddy said "both ATA and NATA should be together and united" to a thunderous applause from the audience.
While ATA Convention has started on July 3rd evening at Philadelphia, NATA Convention is going to start in Atlanta, Georgia State on 4th evening.
He said we should not have two conventions going on at the same time in the United States. To bring the unity among Telugus, we should join both the organizations together and have one mega convention instead, he said.
It may be remembered that during the last ATA Convention held at Atlanta in 2012, Dr. Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy suggested and made a strong argument for the unity of all the Telugu Associations. He recommended that all the 4 national level Telugu associations TANA, NATS, ATA and NATA should join in to one big Telugu Association. He gave the example of American Medical Association (AMA) which was started more than 100 years ago and never got split.
With Dr. Prem Sagar Redddy's proposal, Dr. Hanimi Reddy came on to the stage and reminded the audience of his suggestion two years ago. Dr. Prem Sagar Reddy is a resident of Los Angeles in California state and he owns multiple hospitals in many states with more than a Billion dollars in valuation.
Senior members of the community feel that there will be more unity in the near future. They say that having too many organizations will only result in organizational problems and un-necessary competition. Supporters of multiple organizations have their points as well. They say that the Telugu community is too big to be serviced by one single association. Only the time will decide what is going to happen!
