CPM to stage 'Jaladeeksha' at Papikondalu BHADRACHALAM: The CPM Telangana state committee has decided to stage a 'jaladeeksha' (protest standing in water) at Papikondalu on July 17 opposing the merger of seven mandals of Khammam district, set to be submerged in the backwaters of proposed Polavaram dam, in the Residuary Andhra Pradesh state.
Stating this at a news conference here, Khammam district CPM secretary Pothineni Sudershan said that the protest would be preceded by a meeting of the party's Telangana state committee at Bhadrachalam where the future course of action would be decided.
He said that party leaders from all the 10 districts of the state would attend the meeting and they would include CPM Politburo member BV Raghavulu and Telangana state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram.
Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah, who was present at the news conference, declared that a dharna demanding the maintenance of status quo of the seven mandals would he held at Indira Park in Hyderabad on July 10. Another dharna would he held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 14 demanding the revocation of the Polavaram Ordinance which envisaged the merger of the seven mandals in the Residuary AP state.
